Gujo Hachiman (Gifu)

Hachiman-cho in Gujo city, Gifu prefecture is commonly called 'Gujo Hachiman' and famous for Gujo Odori dance festival.
Gujo Odori is one of the three major bon dance festivals in Japan, and designated as a Japan's Significant Intangible Cultural Folk Asset.

Shokunin machi - one of the streets designated as Japan's Important Preservation District for Groups of Historic Buildings.

The Yoshida-gawa river is a tributary of Nagara-gawa river well-known for a cormorant fishing.

It's selected as one of the best 50 natural water sources in Gifu prefecture.

Igawa-komichi or Igawa-path

The canal behind private houses is still nowadays used for their daily life.

Carps and other fishes in the canal have helped to purify the water.

The gate with hanging lanterns at the entrance to Sogi Sui.
Sogi Sui is a water spring which was the first to be selected as one of Japan's best 100 natural water sources.

Going down the stone-paved steps, there is the Sogi Sui water spring just before the red bridge.

Sogi Sui water shrine       Sogi Sui is the best water to spring out perennially for more than 500 years.

This is the historic site where poet Sogi and local feudal lord To Tsuneyori exchanged farewell poems when the poet returned to Kyoto after visiting Gujo Hachiman in 1471.

The houses on the riverside are built protruding to the river.
